マネジメント・グループの目的

History

マネジメント研究の主たる目的は、ある組織や集団がある目標を達成するために、適切なことを適切なときに首尾良く正しく行うためには、一体何を為すべきか？という問いに明確な指針を与えることです。
われわれマネジメント・グループでは、社会基盤施設の整備・管理・運営をはじめとして、自然資源、環境、技術、社会制度、国際関係、不確実性や現代社会における価値の対立など、極めて多種多様な事象を扱いつつ、社会システムをいかに運営するかという課題に取り組んでいます。

Our aim at the Management Group is to produce graduates who can successfully and viably implement construction and infrastructure projects in any part of the world.

The group was inaugurated as the Infrastructure Systems Laboratory in the Department of Civil Engineering in October of 1989. To better reflect the issues covered in the laboratory, the lab was renamed to the Construction Management/Infrastructure Systems Laboratory (CMIS) in 1993.

In April of 1999, several Professors that founded the CMIS laboratory transferred to the department of International Studies at the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS). Henceforth, the Management Group has been comprised of faculty and students from the Department of Civil Engineering as well as the Department of International Studies at the GSFS. This inter-departmental collaboration has been at the root of the Management Group’s long history of interdisciplinary research.

In addition to its interdisciplinary approaches, students and researchers of the Management Group become part of an international team. One third of our students are from overseas, with our graduates and current students coming from a diverse range of countries (Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, France, Guatemala, Norway, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, Vietnam, and others).

Career Prospects

本グループの特徴は、自らが卒論・修論・博論の研究テーマとして取り組む問題を、自分で考えるプロセスを重視していることです。本グループではまず、毎週金曜日にランチセミナーと呼ばれるゼミを行っています。当ゼミは研究室の全学生を対象に実施され、毎週、順番に担当学生がプレゼンを行う形式で進められます。このプレゼンを通して、発表者自身の問題意識を伝え、他のメンバーとの議論を通じて、「真に何が問題なのか」、「自分は何をすべきか」を見つけるための重要な自己研鑽の場となっています。
また、所属各スタッフによる個別ゼミも開かれています。こちらはランチセミナーに比して小規模となりますが、担当教員を交え、より専門的で密度の濃いディスカッションがなされます。学生の研究テーマや方針、計画等についての詳細な議論もここで行われます。
さらには、本郷地区の学生だけでなく、関連する柏地区（新領域創成科学研究科）の学生も含めたグループセミナーが年数回開かれています。同ゼミは参加人数も、研究範囲も多岐にわたるため、異なるバックグラウンドを持つ学生同士が刺激を受けあい、グループ内の交流をさらに深めることができる機会になっています。

The greatest asset of the Management Group is undoubtedly our vast alumni network. The research focus of our laboratory prepares graduates to make a wide range of career choices. The career paths of graduates have not been limited to just public and private agencies involved in civil engineering and infrastructure projects; the Management Group’s alumni community can be found all over some of the most prestigious companies and institutions in Japan and the international community.
